Apply for a six month, $30,000 stipend, ZERO1 Fellowship around an interactive platform for urban wayfinding. This ZERO1 Fellowship is in partnership with the City of San Jose Public Art's Illuminating Downtown Program Interactive Platform.

The artist selected for this Fellowship will design and prototype an innovative technological platform that serves as an interactive, illuminated pedestrian-oriented navigation system. The robust and replicable technological platform may incorporate various forms of data-mining, mobile computing, connectivity, lighting, and/or interaction using embedded and/or sensor networks, and must be flexible enough to be adapted and integrated by creative professionals in a variety of implementation formats. The Fellow will be expected to design a pilot implementation project for downtown San Jose and will have the opportunity to fabricate and install the pilot project during Phase Two of the fellowship.

ZERO1 and San Jose Public Art invite artists, interaction/experience designers, and urban interventionists to apply for this unique opportunity. We are especially interested in candidates who have prior experience working with and prototyping mobile platforms, lighting, and interactive systems in collaboration with computer scientists and/or engineers, as well as a demonstrated interest in applying these technologies to wayfinding, creative placemaking, or other similar consideration of urban or community engagement.

Applicants should present a clear and convincing proposal that describes the potential technology/ies and their opportunities to impact public experience the urban environment.
