Sculpture Space, Inc. in partnership with Griffiss Park Landowners Association (GPLA) with funding from the New York State Council for the Arts (NYSCA) and the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council (MVREDC) is pleased to accept submissions for the Season of Sculpture Festival.

We seek to commission an artist or artists’ team for a site-specific artwork.
From this RFQ, finalist selections will be made and proposals solicited.


ELIGIBILITY
This RFQ is open to all professional artists over the age of 18. Sculpture Space Alumni are strongly encouraged to apply.


APPLICATION INFORMATION
MARCH 2013
Applications accepted online at: https://sculpturespace.submittable.com/submit and should include:
1. Statement of Interest in the project that includes relevant experience and conceptual/practical
approaches to the Public Art and design process (one page maximum);
2. Resume/CV;
3. EIGHT-TEN images of previous work;
4. Contact information (name, affiliation, phone, email) for THREE professional references.


SCOPE AND NATURE OF PROJECT
$85,000 – Marcy Nanocenter at SUNYIT, Marcy, NY
Site-specific proposals that incorporate light, movement and/or other technologies are welcome but NOT required. This commission will be placed on or near a traffic roundabout, please fully research constraints related to this permanent placement with the New York State Department of Transportation (https://www.dot.ny.gov/main/roundabouts/files/00-067.pdf) and the Oneida County Department of Public Works (http://www.ocgov.net/publicworks).

*Please note commission is inclusive of ALL of expenses related to the creative process from beginning to
end; including: RFP final plan/proposal and related travel/research, transportation, materials, equipment
rental, assistants, food/lodging, artist’s fee and installation. Artist must provide engineering report if deemed necessary by GPLA (GPLA will arrange if desired for a maximum fee of $2000).

PROJECT GOALS
To apply innovative Public Art solutions to enhance the innovative Marcy Nanocenter at SUNYIT in support of the MVREDC initiative.

MAY 1, 2013 Deadline for receipt of application materials
MAY 15, 2013 Request for RFP to finalists
JUNE 15, 2013 Final proposal due
JULY 1, 2013 Final selection announced
JULY 2013 – AUGUST 2014 Creation/installation of commissioned work
*Dependent on New York State funding – dates may be altered/revised as necessary


SELECTION PROCESS
The Selection Committee will include representatives from Sculpture Space, Mohawk Valley EDGE, SUNYIT and others who will review qualifications and select finalists. Finalists will be invited to visit the sites and submit proposals (at their own expense).


SELECTION CRITERIA
The Selection Committee will use the following criteria in the selection process:
o Submittal of all required application materials as outlined in the RFQ;
o Originality, creativity and uniqueness as demonstrated in previous projects;
o Quality – both materially and conceptually – as demonstrated in previous projects;
o Appropriateness of proposal relative to project parameters and goals;
o Feasibility;
o Proven track record/ability of artist to complete proposed work.


TERMS
Sculpture Space accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage of artist submission materials or technical issues with online submissions. Sculpture Space accepts no responsibility for costs incurred by the artist in responding to this RFQ. Artists and artist collaborations selected for this project will be required to meet all contract terms and scopes. Respondents to this RFQ agree to abide by its terms and conditions. At the conclusion of the RFQ, Sculpture Space reserves the right to choose not to commission any proposal.
