Doing and Undergoing - Call For Proposals

Doing and Undergoing is the title of an art exhibition at Teachers College Columbia University from May 2013 – December 15th, 2013 celebrating its 125th year anniversary. Please visit doingandundergoing.net for full information.

Presented throughout the historic Teachers College building on 120th Street in New York City Doing and Undergoing will be a site-specific installation presented on four floors of the fully operational graduate school. The exhibition will be accompanied by an interactive audio-video guide, , which will be constructed during summer 2013; aswell as an electronic catalog, which is planned for late Fall 2013.

HOW TO APPLY

Artists must identify one of three themes under which they wish to propose their artwork:

“Experiential Inquiry”
“Experiment And Experience”
“Doing and Undergoing”


Artists must identify the site of the proposed artwork by going to the website doingandundergoing.net which has all the sites numbered, listed and imaged. Please identify in your proposal the site by the numerical designation.

We ask that artists directly respond to the site and to keep in mind that the exhibition is located in an active and fully functioning graduate school and approach that in a thoughtful manner. Medium: no restrictions.

Please submit:
• 1 to 3 images of the proposed work. Drawings or sketches, if no images are available; appropriately identified, by name, date, title, size.
• 10 images of previous work, appropriately labeled, name, date, title, size and medium.
• Short bio, max 200 words.
• Short artist statement that connects your work to the theme and to the suggested site.

Artists may submit no more than 2 proposals of individual artwork. Proposals may contain a series if that is relevant to the work and the proposed site. We also encourage collaborative projects. All names of the participants must be included in the submission.
Open to all professional artists (No students please).
