Watkins College of Art, Design & Film seeks applicants for a full-time position teaching Time-Based/New Media within the Department of Fine Art. Watkins is a small, visual arts college with disciplines in Fine Art, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Photography, BA in Art, and The Film School. Located in Nashville, TN, Watkins is a private, non-profit college accredited with the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and the Southern Association of Colleges.
Watkins College of Art Design & Film seeks applicants for a full-time position in Time-Based/New Media to begin August 2013. We seek an exceptional artist and educator interested in organizing and further developing new media within the Department of Fine Art.
FACULTY OPENING: Time Media: Digital/New Media
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor, nine month (academic year) in the Time Media Area, Department of Art at Watkins College of Art Design & Film.
STARTING DATE: August 2013
QUALIFICATIONS:
Necessary Qualifications: MFA in visual arts. Candidates should possess the ability to teach Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools and other New Media tools (a working knowledge of After Effects and Maya preferred); a thorough knowledge of contemporary issues in time-based new media and the broader field of art; an exhibition record reflecting a commitment to research; and a primary artistic research emphasis in digital media.
Preferred Qualifications: evidence of quality teaching at the university level; commitment to a sustained trans-disciplinary practice of contemporary art utilizing emerging digital/electronic media; good writing and speaking skills; knowledge of digital facilities and an ability to contribute to their maintenance; and a primary artistic research emphasis in one or more of the following: video art, sound art, performance art, interactive media. Applicants should have a strong interest in foundations level teaching. Applicants will also be asked to teach in one or more areas outside of digital media; including one of the following: 3D Design, 2D Design, Drawing, and advanced courses.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We seek a candidate who is an artist and an enthusiastic educator with a strong desire to enhance the program and foster excellence in our students while teaching courses at all levels of his or her expertise. The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to his or her personal research and program/curriculum planning and development. Watkins College of Art Design & Film offers BA and BFA degrees. The new faculty member’s responsibilities will include teaching at both foundations and upper level classes at the undergraduate level.
Teaching load is currently 6 courses per academic year. This includes teaching 4D Design foundations courses introducing software, tools and concepts in digital media (which serve as part of the foundations curriculum for all majors) and Time Media courses emphasizing digital media, including but not limited to: multimedia work, installations, web/interactive applications, open-source methodologies, sound, and video or other time-based media.
