The Drake University Department of Art and Design seeks a practicing designer/design researcher for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Graphic Design position in the School of Fine Arts beginning Fall 2013.  This position will contribute to a department which is committed to a cross-disciplinary approach to the study and practice of design, art and art history.

Position: A successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of contemporary issues in visual culture and should be forward-thinking about design's role in the 21st century. The candidate will be expected to assist the program in the continued development of its curriculum as it prepares students for existing and developing careers in the evolving practice of design. Salary is competitive with peer schools and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: Teach 3 studio classes each semester in Graphic Design, with interest and ability to instruct at all levels of the undergraduate Graphic Design Program. Engage in professional practice, research and activities related to the discipline. Provide student academic advising and contribute to curriculum development as well as service to the department, university and community. 

Qualifications: M.F.A. in Graphic Design / Media Design / Interaction Design or equivalent required. Teaching experience or evidence of teaching potential and professional graphic design experience preferred. The candidate should demonstrate an understanding of design methodology, conceptual approaches, and various design processes as well as practical application in a variety of media and mediums. Apple platform expertise preferred.
