The Department of Art at Florida State University (FSU) seeks an interdisciplinary artist / designer for an Assistant Professor position. The applicant will use text in relationship to the future of design and art in an interdisciplinary program. This is a tenure-track position with a 3/2 teaching load.

QUALIFICATIONS: MFA or equivalent in the visual arts, an emerging or established recognition in their field, clear record of excellence in teaching and strong communication skills, and an understanding of a wide array of curricular and artistic methodologies.

Candidates will have a commitment to sustained investigation of intellectual issues in contemporary art. Primary creative research involves using text in some way, and may include but is not limited to: book arts, computational design, criticism, digital printing, information design, installation, new media art, printmaking, public art, sculpture, time-based media, typography, and web art. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working across disciplines and encompassing broader approaches to art practice and teaching.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The candidate will have responsibilities in research/creative activity, teaching in both graduate and undergraduate courses, and service. This candidate will have teaching duties in the Print+Media focus area, an interdisciplinary art and design focus on using new media tools to produce various outcomes (2D, 3D and/or Time based), as well as additional courses related to their specialty.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS: The Department of Art offers undergraduate programs (BA, BFA) in Studio Art, and a 3-year MFA program in Studio Art. Our programs encourage interdisciplinary freedom through a wide range of emerging and traditional art practices, while also offering concentrations in digital media, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, photographic and artist books, ceramics and sculpture. Both BFA and MFA programs provide students large personal studios and exhibition spaces.

FSU is a public, fully accredited, coeducational research institution with the Carnegie Foundation's highest designation, Doctoral/Research University-Extensive, with strong support for faculty research and exhibition and is committed to fostering an academic community of excellence. Faculty grants offer up to $20,000 to first-year faculty. There are many opportunities for inter and cross-disciplinary collaboration at Florida State including the History of Text Technologies (HoTT) program, Small Craft Advisory Press (SCAP), and the Facility for Arts Research (FAR).
