The Department of Art and the Graphic Design Program invite applications for a tenure line position in Graphic Design at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning in Fall 2013. We are seeking candidates who are able to teach a variety of courses in the undergraduate graphic design curriculum, with concentration in interactive and user experience design and participation in the university’s persuasive gaming initiative. An MFA in Graphic Design or equivalent terminal degree in a closely associated and relevant field is required. The committee will give preference to applicants with the appropriate academic, professional and teaching experience.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable professional experience or a trajectory in scholarly/creative research in user experience design, persuasive gaming or information visualization and design and be knowledgeable of design considerations in mobile technologies, and other experimental and evolving design and technology topics. The candidate must be able to teach relevant principles in interaction design as well as coding and programming for web (HTML, CSS, Java Script). Additional programing skills and experience with motion graphics and are desirable. We expect the selected candidate to take on a proactive leadership role in curricular development and new program articulations.

The position requires awareness of current issues in user experience design—including persuasive gaming—, graphic design, the demands of the professional field and the tools, technologies and resources inherent to the discipline, and the ability to teach in all these curricular areas. The core teaching responsibilities shall be in the user experience curriculum at the intermediate and upper levels, although occasional teaching of introductory level graphic design courses should be expected. Responsibilities will also include student advising and mentoring women and minority students, as well as service to the design program, the department of art, and the university at large.
