We live in a saturated-color image world. In that world black-and-white photographs feel real. They are images of the gray spectrum, absent of color and are an important part of the power photography plays in today’s world.

Without the distraction of color, other elements of photography stand out in black and white. By removing color as one of our composition elements, we are left with fewer details to consider, and so our attention can focus on the other aspects of the shot.

Black and white photos add an air of romance, class, timelessness and mystery. Photographs that work well in black and white photography are those that have strong patterns, textures, angles, tones, shadows and light perspectives.

Black and white photography is a powerful way, maybe the most powerful way to communicate so much, with so little?

In this Call for Entry making a black and white photo will be the only choice to tell your story in a really dramatic way.
