Project Description & Guidelines
PublicArtSpaces invites Bay Area-based artists to propose a project for a site-specific window installation to be displayed for the greater Mid-Market area.  Artists are asked to consider the historical, social, and political atmosphere of Mid-Market community. Artists are encouraged to create a new site-specific work or expand upon former projects that act in response to / in conversation with / or as a commentary on San Francisco.  Collaborative group projects are welcome! The window is 7’(h) x 5(w) x with a  3’ (d) platform with access to electricity. The Tenderloin district is nestled between the Union Square shopping district to the northeast and the Civic Center office district to the southwest. The window space, located at the corner of Market and Sixth Street, is known locally as Mid-Market. It is home to a large population of homeless, those living in extreme poverty, and numerous non-profit social service agencies, soup kitchens, religious rescue missions, homeless shelters and Single Room Occupancy hotels.
PublicArtSpaces (http://publicartspaces.org/) matches under-used urban spaces with art and culture, empowering people to transform and engage communities through creative projects and other cultural happenings.
