The Department of Sound, Performance, and Visual Inquiry at
the University of Maine at Farmington is a small, dynamic, interdisciplinary program housed in a public liberal-arts college. We seek a painter to teach contemporary approaches to painting at all levels to both art majors and general education students beginning in the fall of 2011. We are interested in artists with a deep understanding of painting in the context of its contemporary theoretical dialogue, and a desire to expand the dialogue into other areas of the arts and across campus. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a new painting curriculum that incorporates conceptual depth in at least one area of new/interactive painting practice. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in interactive media, digital processing, and/or programming. Candidates should have a record of artistic accomplishment, an MFA (in hand or expected by May, 2012) and college-level teaching experience. Joint applications welcome. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, digital portfolio, student work (if available) and statement of teaching philosophy.
