Wi-fi Networks on the L

  • Location:

I am making a series of free PDFs (and printed books eventually) of the wi-fi networks my laptop can see along each Chicago public city train (the 'L') route. The first pdf is out, Pink, which is the line I live on.
I've been investigating the intersections of people, commodities, and space. I like to think of this project as finding invisible graffiti. I think of David Bunn's work with the Los Angeles Public Library card catalog, finding poetry in occurences of words that have found themselves next to each other with an informational, public, mechanized purpose. My books may also be read socio-politically, as each page is the length between each stop of an L line. Readers may correspond each page to the neighborhoods of Chicago, following along with a map.
