Listen

by Kabir Carter
http://www.kabircarter.com/listen

Listen is embedded within the tradition of Adventure or Interactive Fiction games, except that here image is accompanied by a series of sound events that can be audited. The game can be played using ADRIFT, a game development and playing system. Listen consists of a series of modules that each focus on the soundscape of a specific physical environment. Individual modules will be made available for download on a fortnightly basis, and slight changes in each module will be made over time.

Beginning with the first module, a sealed room, one encounters objects and architectural spaces that may or may not generate, activate, or alter a variety of sounds. Building upon my ongoing work with environmental sound and language, the game uses simple text commands germane to Interactive Fiction: Look, Take, North, Wait, and--particular to the game--Listen.
