Nature on the Net: Sense of Security from a Remediated Reality (2005)

The portrayal of reality on the net is mystifying. There are countless live web cams, screensavers and desktops of nature and we spend time looking at them all while inside sitting at a desk staring at a screen. These are things that we have right outside our door. We want to be connected to everything in the most immediate way yet we don’t want to be taken from behind our protective barrier of the computer screen. We are confronted with other people and nature every day but while immersed in it all we can do is wait till we are elsewhere. These works are some examples of our viewing of nature and reality as they are re-mediated through our computer monitors.
