There are many ways people can alter the way people view each other on the internet. Danah Boyd mentioned in her article, Why Youth (Heart) Social Network Sites: The Role of Networked Publics in Teenage Social Life, that identity performance is a very important part in representing yourself to others on these social networking sites. She mentions how people have control of how people view them because they decide what information gets posted up on their site. Map Me by Hugh Davies is a piece that represents a non-digital form of networking but represents this idea of people physically making a networking by connecting business cards together. This is suppose to show how social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook can come to life in reality. Constructing Identities is a piece that represents the way people create different identities on the internet. In the piece "Because You Asked," self portraits are made and can be erased right after if desired. It talks about how expressing themselves in these portraits is important and they are given tools to alter their picture. This represents the importance of the way people alter their identity on the internet in order for their audience to look at them they way they want to. human-intoface.net is a piece that was constructed by several parts of pictures that show more of the person's personality than just a regular picture where the person was posing in a way that they wanted people to see them as. The connection of different personality traits from different pictures shows how this person is different from everybody else by emphasizing his own personal qualities. myfrienemies is a social networking piece that has people building friendships through a common enemy. In this site, people do not need to create fake personalities for other people to like them, they just need to hate the same person in order to get along. All these pieces show how images is important and how people certain personality traits and physical traits can be important to other people when they view you.
