This Exhibition is inspired by visually stunning pieces of artwork that allow our minds to be further expanded into the realm of aesthetic beauty as well as technological advancement. The way in which these pieces of work utilize both aesthetically innovative approaches to art, and technologically accelerated programming, show the clear intent of the artists attempt to achieve a functional piece of beauty. What draws these eight pieces together are their uninformative approaches in using sound, or in some cases, video, to create a computer generated graphic or picture in order to abstractly show the tiny fragments that make up each image. Each composition within this exhibition has a unique quality that both ties and separates them from one another, and as a whole, helps them to work together in order to create a gallery that showcases the truly stunning achievements that computer generated power paired with human ability can produce. **"Shadowplay by joy division, Reanimated." In this piece of work, video footage from the original 1979 Joy Division album cover, 'Unknown Pleasures' was animated with the same topographic style as the album cover design. The use of computer programs to show the reactions of sound, vibration, and movement to the video footage in a topographic style, ultimately give a stunning visual array of white lines on a black background which proves easy to watch in full. **"Ascii Bush." In this video footage, a unique rendition of two The State of the Union Address' take on an encoding scheme based on the ordering of the english alphabet, known as Ascii. Special Characters such as # & and ; are used to overlap live visual footage of two President Bush speeches. The result is no less then visually brilliant and quite innovative. This kind of artwork is very similar to "Shadowplay" because of its use of computer programming to show the effect it can have on visual imagery. **"Life Cycle" presents the life cycle of people through digital imagery and sounds. Containing two parts, one, images that are completely digitally mastered, and two, a series of ten human portraits which are also electronically mastered, these two sections work together to create a larger portrait of human interaction as recognized by any given computer. The way in which an image of a human; heat, movement, vibration, size, is processed and digitalized into a language the computer can recognize is fascinating. the result is shown in this masterful set of art pieces. Life Cycle is similar to Shadowplay and Ascii in that all three carry elements of human movement that are immortalized in computer language. **"Trails #1 #2." This piece of work is very similar to the three preceding pieces of work in that it also takes the human image, movement and vibration included, and encodes it into a computerized image that moves. Network lag imposed 'trails' appears and disappears at the same rate as its subject. Through a technique called '3D Video Sculpture,' Quicktime and Windows C++ capture your image in real time and map it out temporally and sculpturally in an onscreen 3D cube giving it a very similar image effect as the first tree works in this exhibition. **"Ap0202." Unlike the first four pieces of work, this project uses environmental data from any network to model code that is generated and self-displayed, making use of a virtual architecture machine in order to develop and execute self modifying instructions that are set across networked nodes. This project has the capability to use p2p (peer to peer) programming to connect with any available computer, making its possibilities of open paths endless. This type of modeling is exactly what Jorge Luis Borges was talking about is 'Garden of Forking Paths.' Borges states that in a labyrinth-like place where the paths are laid out before you, the possibilities are endless. In this project, ap0202 shows the possibility of each path that p2p power can achieve. In this way, it is unique from the first four projects, but similar in that all five strive to digitally show human interaction. **"B0timati0n." B0timati0n falls perfectly within the theme of this exhibition in that it inputs a search term to the b0timati0n software (browser), and the search engine results interactively animate in psychedelic colors and patterns ranging from Fischinger to Pong. Unlike the fist few projects where computer programs strived to digitalize the human form, this projects computer program strives to digitalize the words entered within the search browser. **Babel." In likeness with 'B0timati0n,' Babel is not a site, but an abstract thing where information space and the taxonomy of knowledge that all libraries represent are realized. The Dewy Decimal system is the key metaphor within his project, in that it represents the infinite nature of information, just like the Garden of Forking Paths. Similar to the other projects in its ability to take human information and categorize it as a computer recognized language, but different from them in that it takes unknown factors and accounts for their possibilities as well; this project is technologically magnificent. **"Bar code Noise." Bar Code Noise is a collection of small animated GIF files containing random numbers and bars with varying frame rates. This piece speaks about human comfort in consumerism. It generates a chaotic spray of bar codes that flicker like an electronic fire built to keep our eyes interested and brain warm. The amount of bar codes grow into overwhelming possibilities of products. This piece of digital art shows lack of limits that some critics say is a natural setback in prepackaged software. The black and white ticking bars mimic the binary data making the art itself possible, linking its similarities to the previous projects and setting in stone, the ideas surrounding 'Garden of Forking Paths.'
