The 5 artists in this exhibit have explored the various ways in which pixels can be manipulated, exposed, or utilized. They have used the foundational element, the smallest discrete element of an image on a screen - the pixel - as a basis for exploring ideas in contemporary art. Among other things, the works here distort images over time, become huge interactive drawings, sort information, transmit visual data, and animate patterns. Each of these pieces, I believe, push the boundaries of what can be done with the basic element of the pixel. As you launch each individual project, consider the pixel and its role in our visual and artistic culture.
