When thinking about digital media, the most basic and definitely the smallest piece is considered to be the pixel. The pixel is the element that is being controlled, managed, altered, created or deleted when working with any medium on a computer. Therefore, I argue that it is also the most important component of digital media. The artwork I selected shows how users can communicate through pixels, as pixels, with pixels and by pixels. The user is forced to look at pixels in a different way, by seeing them individually instead of as a whole. Pixels create voyeurism - they enable one to see and watch. But what happens when the user can control the pixel, or use it in a way other than for viewing a whole image? This exhibit shows a few possibilities.
