Description

a javanized illusion translates a personal poem about the artist's family and romantic life into Java. By imposing the grammar of Java on the poem, the artist tried to emotionally distance himself from the work and let the computer explore the story by its own methodology.

A text based computer work. In an attempt to articulate personal life in computer point of view, chih-min chen translated a poem, written by Denise Burge, into Java language, the most prevailing programming language. This project started from the personal emails between Denise and chih-min – most of them are about the artists’ family and romance. Being inspired by the intimate communications, Denise wrote a touching poem. chih-min then translated the poem to Java.
By imposing the grammar of Java on a poem, chih-min tried to abstracted himself from the work emotionally and rationally, and let computer explore the story by its own methodology.
