Associate Director, Imaging Research Center

We are seeking a 3D computer artist or researcher to direct the creative projects of the Imaging Research Center (IRC) at UMBC and to oversee its production facilities. The Associate Director is integral to the overall management of the IRC and will directly participate in identifying its research and production goals. The Associate Director is primarily responsible for directing the client or grant based projects that are produced in conjunction with the IRC Internship Program.

The IRC is a digitally based research and production facility at UMBC that operates in conjunction with the Department of Visual Arts. It provides a forum for faculty, researchers, corporate partners, and students to research new digital technologies and their innovative use in interpreting and presenting content. The IRC has diverse, high-end visualization facilities and conducts research that focuses on animation, real-time visualization, interactivity, and immersive technologies. It is one of UMBC's premiere research centers and has garnered a national reputation for engaging students in high-profile research projects. In 2003 it will be moving to new and larger facilities. Successful candidates for this position must demonstrate: (1) previous experience as a creative director and/or project manager; (2) an established record of artistic achievement in digital technologies - preferably in computer animation, interactivity and/or visualization; (3) a keen interest in digital imaging research; (4) the ability to work collegially on a daily basis with students, faculty and clients; (5) a broad and thorough knowledge of computer platforms, operating systems, and 3D software.

Salary commensurate with experience. MFA preferred and professional experience required.
