::::::::::: ABOUT :::::::::::

The School of Art offers a three-year MFA degree and is designed to take full advantage of CMU’s exceptional interdisciplinary environment.

Ranked #1 in the nation for our multimedia MFA Art & Design degrees and #7 MFA overall, the school produces artists of exceptional ability and initiative who are able to connect meaningfully with the communities around them.

The Masters of Fine Arts program:
• Integrates traditional and experimental art research and practice
• Embraces individual and collaborative exploration across media
• Emphasizes contextual practice (social, cultural, historical and scientific)
• Offers opportunities for off-campus projects
• Participates fully in a vibrant Pittsburgh arts community

We are actively involved with CMU’s Miller Gallery, STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, and Center for the Arts in Society, unique centers for interdisciplinary arts research and education.

Pittsburgh has been cited as being the ‘Best Arts Destination’ among mid-size cities and one of the USA’s most affordable and livable places. More about Pittsburgh’s arts community and connections at www.cmu.edu/art/pittsburgh
