Open call for Artworks!

Videogame inspired art wanted for Games Britannia exhibition . . . .

Games Britannia is an exciting educational videogames festival that brings creativity and technology together. Through a range of activities, industry experts encourage schools and teachers to practice and celebrate the wonderful world of video game development. As part of this dynamic festival Third Person View is offering artists the opportunity to exhibit new work in a group show at the prestigious Millennium Gallery in Sheffield.

Videogames use images, characters and scenes to tell stories and build worlds. From the abstract landscapes of Journey to the building blocks of Minecraft, videogames offer the creative opportunity to play, build and interact with new environments.

Theme

Third Person View invites artists to respond to the theme of landscape, using videogames as the tools and inspiration for contemporary art making. We are seeking works that engage with videogames to critically address the way we build or inhabit spaces.

Within this broad theme we encourage artists to consider habitats, landscapes, gaming environments, levels, multiple spaces, non-linear narratives across different planes, platforms, virtual space, journeys through environments and uses of space (shared, social, creative, competitive).

In particular, we are looking for works that push beyond expressions of fandom, and which investigate the convergence of videogames and contemporary art. Artists at all stages of their creative careers – from emerging to established – are encouraged to submit their work.

Venue

Work will be showcased in the Millennium Galleries and Winter Gardens. The Millennium Gallery is Sheffield's premier destination for art, craft and design, situated in the centre of Sheffield close to the main station, the Central Library, Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield Hallam University, and Sheffield Theatres.
