VIDEO/MEDIA ARTIST, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

The Department of Art Practice at the University of California, Berkeley. Assistant Professor (tenure track) of electronic media art, effective July 1, 2003. We seek an artist with a sound practical, theoretical, and historical understanding of electronic media art to teach undergraduate and graduate students in video art and any one of the following areas of practice: net art, game development, and electronic installations or performances. The successful candidate must be interested in developing collaborative projects with other departments, such as Film Studies; Theater, Dance and Performance Studies; Architecture; Music; and Computer Science.
Qualifications: MFA degree required (Ph.D. welcome) and university level teaching experience.
Applications Requirements: Curriculum vitae; at least a two-page statement concerning the candidate's creative and research projects and achievements, as well as his/her views about the relationship between technology and art; one-page statement of teaching philosophy, interests, and experience; at least two sample course syllabi; either video documentation (VHS, NTSC, or MiniDV NTSC) of installations or performances (10 to 15 minutes maximum), or else at least three currently available online projects; one or more publication or writing sample of work-in-progress (hard copy, 30 pages maximum); names, full addresses (mail and email), and telephone numbers of three academic or professional references.
