The Art Department in the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in Animation, commencing September 2014. Teaching load is between 12-18 undergraduate credit hours per year (6-9 per semester), commensurate with level of scholarly and creative productivity.

The Assistant/Associate Professor-art animation duties include student advising, maintenance of office hours, curriculum development, senior project reviews, and recruitment and general department activities including committee. The successful candidate will demonstrate passionate engagement in her/his own practice, research, and scholarly activities. The Art Department emphasizes conceptual and aesthetic innovation while encouraging student-centered pedagogy.

Minimum Qualifications:

-M.F.A. or PhD in animation, interactive design, or a related field
-Substantial portfolio that demonstrates success in creative and professional practice
-Demonstrated expertise in traditional 2-D animation and CG 3-D animation
-Expertise in writing code and teaching students how to write code
-Experience with a diverse student body
-The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
-Minimum of three years of teaching experience at the college level, and three years of professional experience in animation or interactive design such as games, visual effects, augmented reality/extended reality systems, or mobile application design

Preferred Qualifications:

-Strong production credits preferred
-Excellent understanding of time-based media and narrative development
-High level of technical proficiency
-Acknowledgment within the field with publications and/or creative work, awards or other professional recognition
-Understanding of theoretical and critical aspects of animation highly desirable
-Significant understanding of experimental animation, commercial and independent filmmaking preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
