Assistant Professor of Art in New Media
Tenure-track position, Assistant Professor of Art in New Media, to teach beginning to advanced fine art New Media courses. Candidates must have an MFA in New Media or a related field or terminal degree, have teaching experience at the undergraduate level, and have a significant exhibition record. They should possess fluency in historical and conceptual frameworks for new media practices, a strong background in contemporary art and visual culture practices, and have expertise in one or more new media areas, such as the following: net.art, sound art, immersive media, interactive and responsive art/installation, augmented reality and digital performance, physical computing, or animation.
The successful candidate is expected to participate fully in departmental duties, committee service, campus activities, and engage in scholarship and/or creative activities aligned with the mission of the university.
Opportunities exist to develop an interdisciplinary curriculum in New Media that reflects faculty research and creative interests. M.F.A. required by the appointment start date.

About the Department
Located in Metro Detroit, the Department of Art and Art History at Oakland University offers B.A. degrees in Art History, Studio Art, and Graphic Design, as well as minors in each. The department currently enrolls approximately 300 majors across its three major programs. Concentrations within Studio Art include drawing, painting, photography, and new media. Students can also earn a B.A. in Studio Art with a certification in K-12 Art Education.
The Department's curriculum encompasses both art-making as an aesthetic expression of intellectual vision, and contextual study and research into the exceptional range of aesthetic expression throughout history. Majors and non-majors develop their knowledge and understanding of the history of the visual arts, gain a solid grounding in aesthetic and critical theory, develop technical skills in a variety of artistic media, and expand their abilities to conceptualize and communicate through aesthetic means.
