Moving Image Artist – Assistant or Associate Professor

POSITION: Assistant or Associate Professor of Art, focused in the production of the moving image. Full-time and tenure eligible position. This position is a potential joint appointment with a newly forming Moving Image Production (MIP)/Film Studies Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: M.F.A. degree or the equivalent. Significant professional and academic background with commitment to conceptual and interdisciplinary inquiry in the fields of video, filmmaking, and/or other moving image strategies. An active professional creative practice, including a record of screenings, exhibitions, and/or projects beyond the local and regional level is expected.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate should have more than three years college-level teaching experience, possess advanced abilities within an expanded field of video art and moving image production.

Emphasis would be placed on identifying an artist with a contemporary critical practice that is informed by the history of video art and/or experimental filmmaking. We seek a candidate who would find new opportunities for extending his or her research activities through collaborative opportunities. Within a research-intensive institution, the production of moving image as an art form can be defined in the broadest of terms. The ability to engage other OSU units that explore moving image (Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design, Film Studies, Communication Studies, Dance, Theatre, Music, and Design, to name just a few) would be a skill set this position would require. The ideal candidate would engage in a broad creative research practice that is reflective of the expansive definition. The candidate must have knowledge and be well versed in the theoretical, contemporary and historical lineage of video art and experimental film. This position will require a commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and creating a critical and experimental learning environment within a public research university. Previous experience in curricular development, mentoring students, and service on graduate committees is preferred. Service and committee work will be expected.
