LOCATION: Boca Raton Museum of Art

The position requires specialized curatorial work involving the planning and organizing of in-house and traveling exhibitions focused on 20th century and contemporary art; and developing related publications, programs, grant proposals; and working with the Education Department on educational programs and materials for school and public audiences. The candidate will be expected to work with the current exhibition schedule, including implementation of exhibitions currently in the planning phase. Collection building and the development of relationships with donors, collectors and the cultural community of South Florida is central to the role.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Produce a long-range (2+ years) exhibition calendar. In general, the Museum plans 12-15 exhibitions each year, which includes rented traveling exhibitions and those curated in-house.
Recommend traveling exhibitions appropriate to the mission and long-range goals of the Museum.
Plan and implement programs related to the exhibitions such as lectures, multi-media/audio-visual presentations, demonstrations and workshops.
Research and write for Museum publications and preparation of copy for interpretive labels, wall texts, press releases, Web site and other communications.
Produces and delivers PowerPoint lectures, gallery talks and other presentations as needed.
Preparation of departmental budget regarding exhibition expenses.
Production of press releases in concert with the Marketing Director.
Development of collections through both purchased acquisitions and donations; likewise, the cultivation of area collectors and donors.
Work with Director of Development to raise funds for department programs/projects through grant writing.
Undertake research and travel, maintain and develop contacts with colleagues in the field and develop knowledge of international, national and local artists by making studio visits, seeing exhibitions and performances and visiting galleries. Maintain professional affiliations.
Other related duties as required by the Director, to whom this position reports.

The successful candidate will have:

A Master’s degree in art history or studio art from an accredited college or university.
Advanced knowledge of 20th century and contemporary art in its broadest and most current manifestations.
Five+ years experience as a museum curator.
