NEW MEDIA ARTIST

The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis seeks an artist for a position as assistant professor, tenure-track, of New Media in the College & Graduate School of Art. Appointment to begin fall 2011. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The candidate will work in both the College and Graduate School of Art, teaching studios, seminars, and advising graduate students on ideas and practices in evolving technologies and new media. We seek an artist whose work incorporates new technologies and new thinking from a wide range of visual, spatial, sound, and material practices. The candidate should have demonstrable teaching proficiency in new media, particularly digital technologies, and a broad knowledge of art history, especially as these apply to contemporary critical and theoretical concerns. The candidate should possess an artistic and critical viewpoint manifested in a broadly defined new media studio practice.

MFA with teaching experience at the college level and a record of significant professional activity is required. Applicants should have an interest in working across disciplinary boundaries. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with interest and ability in collaborative teaching and research, as well as a commitment to building an interdisciplinary curriculum in the context of art, architecture and design education.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a voice in shaping the future curriculum in the Graduate School of Art and in the Sam Fox School, while maintaining an active program of research and creative activity, participating in student advising and mentoring, and serving on university and school committees.

Applications should include a letter of intent with a brief summary of teaching and research/creative activity philosophy, a current cv, samples of work (PDF or PPT format), samples of student work if available, and three letters of recommendation, addressed to:
