The School of Liberal Arts seeks to hire a colleague in the instruction of Creative Coding and Data Visualization for the very popular Digital Media Practices coordinate major. The DMP program is an innovative and growing area at Tulane whose mission is to educate our students in the art, craft, and technology of this inherently interdisciplinary field. Our creative students seek a holistic approach to media production in the context of their liberal arts disciplinary training. Historically, our program offers intensive, hands-on production experience in courses dedicated to film and audio production, screenwriting, documentary filmmaking, cinematography, color-grading, digital art, theater, media theory, and film analysis. DMP focuses on the development of individual talent and skills within a collaborative and professional working environment while encouraging our students to be creative and thoughtful practitioners in the world of media. With eyes on an expansive future we seek an individual that can teach coding and data visualization literacy and skills in the context of storytelling to our students and the greater Liberal Arts Community. This position is part of a proposed six position cluster hire in the Digital Media Practices Program with searches taking place into 2022.


The successful candidate should have a diverse portfolio demonstrating Creative Coding and Data Visualization expertise through research and/or creative projects. Evidence of expertise in interactive programming, interaction design for the web, user design experience and experience working as a team leader on complex projects are also desirable.


The candidate must be prepared to teach courses in Creative Coding and Data Visualization to liberal arts students both within the DMP program and also in coordination with other disciplines in the humanities. We are interested in offering courses emphasizing both critical and practical perspectives on these topics. We are especially interested in candidates who are prepared to work collaboratively and bring innovative new ideas and approaches as we develop curricula and the future of this program. Ability to find creative ways to connect students to candidate’s contacts in the industry would be valued.


This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, 9-month non-tenure track position at the rank of Professor of Practice. Contracts are eligible for renewal, without limit, and appointments are renewed on escalating 3-, 5-, and 10-year terms. Teaching load is 3 courses per semester with the expectation of service to mentor students as they move into a range of professions in media.
