There are only two more days remaining to watch Illich Castillo's magnificent video deconstruction piece 'TOUCH-Auto-Glitch' at The Unstitute's online Projection Room.
We would like to invite all curious people to see the extent of Illich's mechanical/digital corruption in his voyage into the distorted world of video.
**We are also delighted to say that Illich has contributed his piece 'The Things' - a weird set of transformations generated in the credit sequence of John Carpenter´s 1982 film "The Thing" - to The Unstitute's permanent collection; and very well worth a watch it is too.
TOUCH-Auto-Glitch is a part of a series that explore an automatic/machinic corruption of a film frame - in the video a singular gesture of a finger pressing down is looped, lifted from the original context of the film narrative; isolated, it becomes a gesture of a mechanic destruction, a corruption of its own image. Manipulated by another gesture of the artist pressing down a pause button on a remote control, this mirroring effect of a mechanic and a manual gesture renders the image unrecognizable, in a sense cancelling them both by transforming figurative into abstract which perverts its own image to completely alter its figurative nature. This ends up becoming something unrecognizable.
About The Projection Room:
The Projection Room at The Unstitute was created to show experimental video art. Works are selected on the basis of their ability to provoke thought, reaction and engagement on the visual, audible and conceptual levels, whether in a positive or negative fashion. Videos are not selected on the basis of technical merit or aspiration to conventional standards.
Successful works will be screened for one month. Applicants may send as many works as they like - if selected, they will form part of a month-long roster. Your video/s will be promoted via international web channels.
