LOCATION: Recess

This fall, Yve Laris Cohen and Park McArthur will begin work at 41 Grand Street as part of Recess’s signature program, Session. Session invites artists to use Recess’s public space as a studio, exhibition venue, or grounds for experimentation. For their Session entitled September 27th – December 1st, Laris Cohen and McArthur will use Recess as a space to work on individual and collaborative projects concerning the politics of inclusion, the inconclusive boundaries of subjectivity, and the aesthetics of care. Their efforts will consider the pressure that bodies barred from or refusing correction apply to the rehabilitative turn in contemporary art, as well as the generative consequences of delay in times of insistent, unrelenting presentness.

About the Artist:
Most recently, Park McArthur attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2012 and the Whitney Independent Study Program from 2010 – 2012. Her work Epistle was performed at the ICA in Philadelphia; her writing will be included in The International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics’s forthcoming issue on vulnerability. She graduated with a BA from Davidson College and an MFA from the University of Miami.

Yve Laris Cohen’s work has been performed and exhibited at locations including SculptureCenter, Dance Theater Workshop, Abrons Arts Center, Danspace Project, Thomas Erben Gallery, ICA Philadelphia, and Movement Research at the Judson Church. Laris Cohen was a 2010-2012 Movement Research Artist in Residence, and received the Rema Hort Mann Foundation’s Visual Art Grant Award in 2011. He graduated with a BA from the University of California, Berkeley in 2008 and an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in 2011.
