As part of the 13th Annual D.U.M.B.O. Art-Under-The-Bridge festival, Sean Capone will present a large-scale, site specific video installation within the Archway concourse. The event will run on Friday and Saturday evenings from around 7pm-10pm.
ABOUT THE INSTALLATION
In this installation, titled Camera Rosetum, a series of video projectors illuminates the ceiling span of the Archway with evolving constellations of patterns, arabesques, and floral motifs, evoking the sensual atmosphere and ornamentation of baroque architecture. Within these shifting fields and cycles is the outline of a miniature, speculative cosmology.
Camera Rosetum is an ongoing multi-media project which explores the relationship between new media aesthetics and the symbolic representation of nature. The site was chosen for its similarity in scale and grandeur to that of a cathedral or an observatory, spaces designed for the purpose of observing and contemplating the sublime.
ABOUT THE ARCHWAY
The Archway is a 7000sf tunnel that runs under the Manhattan Bridge. After years of advocacy, this historic site is once again open to the public after being closed for 17 years.
