WHY:“Money, Management, and Marketing” is part of LMCC’s initiative to rebuild Lower Manhattan through assisting artists groups in developing their business acumen. Nearly 70\% of those who reported income loss as a result of the 9-11 tragedy worked in the city’s entertainment and arts sector, according to a survey conducted by the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Tom Healy, President to the LMCC, encourages New York to develop this creative economy that is crucial to the downtown area’s rebirth after September 11th. Having received the last of the September 11th Fund Grants of $5 Million, LMCC has set up an artist residency program, organized educational workshops, and presented ongoing exhibitions such as “Harlem is…downtown”, which has helped rebuild arts and music to the downtown area.

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council is an essential part of Downtown’s cultural landscape and principal player in its redevelopment - as it has been since 1973. With cultural planning, art services, funding opportunities and free events in the performing, visual and new media arts, LMCC is a leader in enriching New York City’s creative capital. Following the loss of their office, studio and programming venues at the World Trade Center, LMCC has re-emerged as a new and improved cultural force.
