abertura is a one-day event which presents VJing and realtime audiovisual performances, presentations, discussions and workshops, by national and international artists. In its second edition, abertura2, the theme of which is "Communities, Collectives and Collaboration", in which theory can be developed in conjunction with technology (last year's "abertura 2007" theme), we will explore a variety of approaches people use to work together in the making of "live performance", and its related expression and dissemination. The event has a strong experimental component and this second edition brings to Portugal a large international palette of people and work.

Ana Carvalho is a visual artist born in Porto, Portugal and living at the moment in Falmouth, UK.
Major themes in the work of Ana Carvalho are emotional celebrations in daily life, women's achievements, fictional biography and ways of knowing. Experiencing different cultures and languages is a way of living.
She develops work that describes processes of interaction with other people while telling stories that are nor entirely fiction or reality.
The work is presented as live visual performance, installation/videos and on the Internet. By using images and colors she explores multiplicities in herself, gender and relationships.
She is one of four members of Art in Hidden Places of Falmouth. Through art events, the group attempts to create a network for artists to communicate, collaborate and create works in public spaces.
Ana Carvalho is currently researcher at iRes Research cluster in Interactive Art & Design and lecturer at University College of Falmouth.
